An early 20th century male nude by Guglielmo Plüschow, his typical set-dressing with patterned carpet and fabric making a fine backdrop to the timeless masculine beauty of his models.
A lavishly-dressed set draped with carpets and fur provides a detailed backdrop for this male nude by Guglielmo Plüschow, around the turn of the last century.
A postcard from the 1910s, published by the firm Galifi, and featuring a photograph by Wilhelm von Gloeden taken in the 1890s. The model on the right is Pascquale Stracuzzi, I regret I cannot recognise his companion from behind!
Il Moro, once again displaying his truly admirable curves before the camera with an elegant tilt of his hip; it is easy indeed to see why he became such a favourite among models, why he graces so many scenes with his beauty and charismatic presence.
A man posing naked, with his back to the camera, standing on a rocky outcrop in a watery landscape. ca. 1900
I’ve been unable to find out a photographer’s name for this picture; both the style and the geology reminiscent of Henry Scott Tuke’s images of nude models of the rocky coast at Newporth, Cornwall, but no firm connection can be made.
Not the finest image quality, nor the most inspiring pose, but still rather a splendid sight to behold - one of Vincenzo Galdi’s wonderfully well-chosen male models from turn-of-the-century Rome.
The ever-lovely Il Moro, Pancrazio Buccini, with his handsomely proportioned and elegant companion - what poise in the way he hollows his back! We’ve seen these two together here, and again here, and this model photographed alone, too. Perhaps one day we will discover his name.
A lovely long-limbed male model picks grapes in this 1898 photograph by Guglielmo Plüschow, his basket cast aside it’s quite clear that the task is merely an excuse to stretch his beautiful body out before the camera.
This photograph from the end of the 19th century struck me as instantly familiar, and soon I realised why - it is in fact the rear view of a strapping young fellow we have seen facing the camera.
Photograph of Tom White on Newporth Beach for a figure in ‘Under the Western Sun’ c. 1917.
Some further photographs of Tom White from this seaside modelling session can be seen here.
Photographed by Guglielmo Plüschow around the turn of the last century, a voluptuous model with particularly curvaceous thighs, and a beautiful bum - displayed to fine advantage as he turns his back to us and surveys the landcape beyond the confines of Plüschow’s terrace.
An extremely muscular model strikes a powerful pose for Wilhelm von Gloeden in one of his later pictures from the early years of the 20th century - we have seen this man before in the magnificent and memorable snake-charmer photograph.
An infinitely improved copy of a photograph I’ve shared here before, this time we may see the beautiful Vincenzo Galdi in all his glory, a much-admired model blessed with flawless skin and quite delightful curves! Also revealed here, a fine painting upon the wall; one of the many treasures of the ancient ruins of Pompeii.
Edoardo before a mock door on an ancient Roman grave, in the impressive ruins of Pompeii. We can see another of Plüschow’s shots in the same location here.
